I hopped in the boat last night after work to check some areas down south of where i had been fishing, took off out of Bayshore Park and put the bow south and went for a ride. I graphed most of the time just checking on areas I haven't fished in quite some time. Found large schools of fish out in 15-19 feet chasing small bait balls.
Most of the fish were up 7 feet or more off bottom and I wasn't planning to troll so I continued my search closer to structure. I Spot hopped Several humps south of the Sparkplug but once again most of those fish were very high in the column not conductive to snap jigging and that is what I wanted to do if I was going to fish at all. Mostly I just wanted to get out and see what was shaking for my up coming charters this weekend. as I ran back closer to the launch I stopped and checked some rocky shoreline structure in 6 feet pointing my live scope towards shore i noticed fish sitting is 2-4 feet of water so I grabbed my trusty Daiwa Kage Walleye Rod tied up with a 1/4 ounce google eye jig and a AYU kietech easy shiner and went to work.
My second cast landed a beautiful Green Bay walleye at just under 30". I Grabbed a selfie and went back to casting. Few Casts later i had the cadence figured out, it was a fast short 1 foot pop never letting it hit the bottom until my 3-4 pop then a very short pause and go again. I landed another great walleye coming in at 27". I continued to just nose my way down the shoreline and cast as I went picking fish up along the way. Only problem was I couldn't get into any eater size fish they were all 25"+. Cant complain about that except I wanted a fish fry tonight! All in all it was a fun solo mission to some old spots and good to see fish still up shallow. Water temps were low 60's and winds were little breezy out of the south. Just enough to fire those shallow gravel lizards up.
Ill be out Friday , Saturday and Sunday all day with charters. Ill have a few more reports from this weekend. Tight Lines Everyone!
